Equipment Needed

Mix n Chop - We use the mix n chop to break up the ground beef and love it.

Large Mixing Bowl - We are big fans of this glass batter bowl that has a handle. It makes it easy to mix ingredients and keeps the mixing bowl steady on the counter.

I really like this recipe! I use frozen mixed vegetables. They seemed tough, so now I steam them in the microwave (8 min for 12 oz. bag. That made them nice and tender.

I did not cook the veggies the first time I made this. They seemed tough and/or undercooked. I steamed them on the microwave the next time. They were nice and tender.

A good shepherd's – or indeed cottage – pie, needs a solid, but fluffy top: too much milk or butter, and you'll end up with a sloppy puree instead. Make sure you steam the potatoes dry before mashing, and season generously; I like Bareham and Hopkinson's nutmeg as well as the usual salt and pepper.
